Bridal Fascinator Tutorial for Pixie Cuts

Hey there fellow Pixie Brides!

I've had a few questions about the fascinator that I made for my wedding day, so I wanted to show you some pictures that went into a little bit more detail.

Here are the two components:

The Netting:

The Flower Pin:

As you can [hopefully] see on the left side, I put the needle and thread up through the farthest left hole and then down through the 4th hole over...then up through the next 4th hole over...all the way till the end...

Then I pulled the two ends of the thread together until it had gathered how I liked it and tied the ends together. (I wanted it to lay pretty flat against my head, but still have ripples.)

I then poked the pin side of the flower through the middle of the gathers and that was it!

The finished product.

I found the netting in the fabric area of my local fabric store. I could buy it by the yard, and I think I bought about 1/3 of a yard. It's not any kind of fancy netting...it ended up costing about $2.00.

I also bought the flower pin at a craft store for about $5.00.

Here's another look at the finished product:

Also, a side note: I just found these pictures of a pre-made veil we had bought at the same craft store...but I felt like it overwhelmed my head too much and was too poofy and wouldn't lay the way I wanted, which is why I decided to make my own.  (3 cheers for control freaks!)

Here's to hoping you find the veil you're looking for!

My Wedding Day Hair

I had such a hard time finding photos of pixie cut hairdos so I hope these can help someone out there! We got our wedding photos back last week and I couldn't be happier with them! Here are a few pics focusing on my hairpiece and hairdo from our wedding day. :) The veil cost me about 5 dollars to make and was really easy. I bought the flower pin at Michaels and the netting for $2.00 at Joann's.

I have really thick hair, so I decided to curl it a little bit and make a slight "faux updo" based on this video: Short Formal Updo

These photos are by Wes and Alisa Courtney of Funky Trunk Studios. They blew my mind with their photos and are two of the nicest and fun people you'll ever meet! If you live in the Seattle area and need a wedding, portrait, or family photographer, look them up!! They're incredible! (http://www.funkytrunkstudios.com)

These are a few of my "getting ready" shots.

That's my poppa. :) I did a first look with him. :)

We had so much fun on our wedding day. It was relaxing, beautiful, and a total blast. I think it's pretty obvious that I adore my husband! :)

Inspiration

A friend of mine found this video for me and I'm stuck on it!!

And for a wedding in which my hair has to stay ALL day (mine usually falls pretty quickly) I want all the product I can get!! :P

I love the concept of "faux" pixie cut "up dos!" I really don't want my hair to be flat against my head or looking like a boy's on the day of my wedding!

I love this picture!

Her hair is a little bit longer than mine, but I like the swept up and curled back look.
The site that I got it from has some good images for types of hair accessories for brides.

I am also doing a birdcage veil with a flower of some kind, I'm currently looking at this one:
